David was born August 26, 1932, in Stella Nebraska to Lionel Gilbert and Ella Louise Ward. David served in the United State Navy, during the Korean War as a radio operator. After his service in the Navy, David moved to Pendleton, Oregon where he would marry Alice Mae Neely in 1953.
